The writing is just as good as it was in the first book if not better. The story moves quite quickly and is really involving; I finished another book and then read this entire novel in one sitting. The only problem with this book is that it doesn't have the killer hook the first one had. Granted, there are very few ways to start off a story--whether it be a book, movie, video game, or anything else like that--than the possibility of the world ending. Still, the beginning felt a little lackluster. It got better as the story went along, though, and I'm hoping the conclusion will be great.
