I would have read this book in elementary school if my jerk third grade teacher had actually believed I was smart for my age like I was, but that's another story for another time. As for the book itself, which I just read for the first time today, this was a fun, though decidedly strange, fantasy adventure. The one problem I had with it was the overuse of illustrations. I'd be okay with a few pictures, but at least two or three big drawings per chapter seems a bit much for a book that says it's at a sixth grade reading level on the back cover. If you enjoy juvenile fiction and don't mind copious pictures in a book, then you might like this.
