As a lifelong fan of the Tubby Tabby, I couldn't help but pick this up when I saw it at a local yard sale. Maybe my love for the fat cat made me expect too much from this book, but I was rather disappointed by it. There were some funny and cute comic tales among these nine stories, but one or two of them were rather scary and offensive. The one that really bothered me was "Primal Self," where--pardon me if this makes you blush--a house cat gets reminded of a traumatic memory from his past and ends up attacking his elderly owner. No, it wasn't gory, but that didn't stop it from being offensive and, in my opinion, inappropriate for kids. If you've got a young Garfield fan in your house, I suggest picking up one of the first "Fat Cat 3 Packs" (especially the very first one) or "The Merriam-Webster and Garfield Dictionary". To me, this is as bad or worse than the two "live-action" Garfield movies.
