Flee the Darkness (Millennium Bug Series #1)

Flee the Darkness - Grant R. Jeffrey, Angela Elwell Hunt Pretty much everyone my age or older remembers the Y2K debacle. Some said it was going to be the end of the world; others said our technology was going to come to a screeching halt; still others had various other predictions. It turned out that it really wasn't worth worrying about; the worst thing that happened was some antiquated computer systems erroneously stating the current year was 1900. "Flee the Darkness" was written in 1998, when the supposed millennial threat was looming. Much like the Jenkins/LaHaye mega-blockbuster series "Left Behind," "Darkness" deals with Revelation's prophecies about the end of the world. Most of what's written in that final Bible book is not fully understandable by us humans, but Jeffrey and Hunt take their own interpretation and weave it into a fun techno thriller. To be honest, I'm not sure the world's end is going to happen the way it does in this novel, but it still makes for excellent reading. In fact, it almost reads like one of the Tom Cruise "Mission: Impossible" films, just without the sexual content and profanity. With great action, a little romance thrown in, and a villain you'll want shot dead well before the book ends, this is definitely a great one. I'm glad I have the sequel on hand; I can't wait to see what happens next.
